![]() Bill & Dianna Meehan opened the Atlantic House & Down East Coffee Shop. Located on Water Street in the building which had formerly been the Chowder Down restaurant, the coffee shop soon became a popular spot with Lubec and Campobello residents. Following changes and alterations which began in early March, the business has expanded to include deli and pizza. The deli includes home made Kaiser rolls with a variety of luncheon meats and cheeses. "We offer only top quality meats," said Bill Meehan, "including turkey, ham and roast beef." "We also have a variety of rolls," added Dianna. "There are plain, onion, garlic, poppy seed, and sesame seed. We have American, Swiss and Provolone cheeses and the deli also has many other choices "There is pizza which can be ordered to eat in or take out. "Our pizzas are stone cooked," said Bill Meehan. "It's the right way to cook a pizza." In addition to the indoor seating, the deck at the back of the restaurant has been renovated to facilitate outdoor seating and offers a panoramic view of the Narrows between Lubec and Campobello and the Roosevelt International Bridge. |
Bill and Dianna Meehan have another business in the works as well. On a property across the street from the Atlantic House, the Betsy Ross Lodging. "The facade of the hotel will be a replica of the Betsy Ross home in Philadelphia," said Bill. It is a 2-1/2 story structure with six units and a cozy open air setting area. "We will have gift certificates for the Atlantic House eatery," said Dianna. Bill added, "We hope that the two businesses will compliment each other." Bill and Dianna Meehan had previously operated Meehan Armored, Inc., near Providence, Rhode Island. They had summered in the Lubec area for eleven years and came to like it so much that they decided to start a business in Lubec.
